The conveying of adhesives is a tough and sticky matter. The desired characteristics in the final product create enormous challenges for production engineering. In the case of the customer from Jung Process Systems, the viscosity of the product is about 100,000 mPas. In addition to the high viscosity, the high pipe friction losses on the suction side and thereby a very low value NPSHa value created a challenge for the pump to be utilised. Consequently, the inflow of the liquid to be conveyed into the feed screw chamber is problematic. The customer took these reasons into account and decided on the funnel design of the HYGHSPIN steel screw spindle pump. In contrast to the standard design, the pump inlet is hereby designed as a flange as the adhesive is processed in a closed system. Another special feature of the installation is the equipment for the pump with a double-acting, locked mechanical seal instead of a lip seal. By treating the mechanical seals with a barrier fluid, any product discharge from the pump into the environment into the surrounding environment is prevented just like any penetration of the pumped medium between the sliding surfaces. This solution ensures that the high viscous medium falls into the feed chamber and is then easily conveyed smoothly without pulsations and continuously.
3-in-1 Principle Convinces
Feeding in the product, conveying it and cleaning it by means of the innovative design of HYGHSPIN Hopper steel screw spindle pumps from Jung Process Systems. The feeding in of the conveyed medium is performed in the extruder area below the filling funnel, the pressure increase in the actual pump area with the individually designed conveying screws for the respective application. This design principle also convinced the adhesive manufacturer. They have decided on a HYGHSPIN Hopper in the construction size 90. It can master a differential pressure of 15 bar, the conveying flow rate varies between 1 and 10 m3/h. The pump is installed in an ATEX Zone 1.
